Charles "Jody" Calica

jodycalica.jpgJody is a member of the Warm Springs Tribe (Tygh and Clackamas Bands).  He currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs; this position is appointed by Tribal Council and provides leadership and direction in all elements of the Tribal organization and acts as a communication conduit between the Tribal Council and the Tribal Organization.

Jody graduated from Madras Union High School in 1965.  Following graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served through 1972 when he was honorably discharged as Petty Officer Third Class (Qualified as Second Class).  Following his discharge, he entered college, culminating in Oregon State University Graduate School majoring in Education Administration and later Lewis and Clark College Graduate School majoring in Public Administration.

From 1974-1976 he served as the Madras High School Guidance Counselor.  In 1976 he began working for the Tribe as the Director of Education.  In 1978 he was promoted to the Municipal Branch Manager overseeing the Police, Education, OSU Extension, Prosecution, Recreation, Fire & Safety, Legal Aide, and Natural Resources.  In 1983 the Tribe reorganized and Jody became the Department of Education, Training and Employment Manager.  In 1988 he served as the Assistant Community Services Manager.  In 1989 he was promoted to the General Manager of Natural Resources where he overseen 200+ employees.  In 1998 he was appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer where he worked alongside the Secretary-Treasurer and overseen the Natural Resources, Human Services, Public Safety, Housing, Business and Economic Development, Education Services, Public Utilities, and Special Projects Branches.  In 2002 Jody left the organization to serve as the Bureau of Indian Affairs Superintendent for the Northern Idaho Agency.  In 2004 Mr. Calica returned to Warm Springs to fulfill the duties of the Secretary-Treasurer for the Tribe.

Mr. Calica served as an Oregon Parks and Recreation Commissioner (two terms), Oregon Heritage Commissioner (two terms), Oregon Historical Society Director (three terms), Deschutes River Resources Conservancy Director, VFW Life Member, Healthy Streams Partnership Committee member, Oregon Water Trust Advisory Committee, Oregon State University/Cascade Campus Board of Advisors, and the Warm Springs Chapter Boys and Girls Club Board of Advisor.  He also served on the National Indian Juvenile Justice Task Force, the Oregon Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, Intertribal Timber Council Board of Directors/Treasurer, Central Oregon Community College Foundation Board of Trustees, Oregon Indian Education Assn. Vice President, Oregon Indian Education Assn. Vice President, ATNI/Advocates for Indian Education Board of Directors, Warm Springs Forest Products Industries Board of Directors, Lower Deschutes River Interagency Managers Team, Warm Springs Tribal Pension Committee, and the Warm Springs Victims Assistance Program Board of Directors.
